110 participants from 42 organizations including 14 participants from 9 countries of Europe (Federal Republic of Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Poland, Macedonia, Norway) took part in the workshop. They represented the international organizations that took care of telecommunications networks development: CEENet, RENAM, DANTE, ACONET, POL34. Among the foreign participants there were the representatives of NATO scientific committee, European Commission, European network GEANT, scientific national networks of Austria, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (Moscow).

There were presented scientific and educational networks URAN, UARNet - foreign operator in cooperation with URAN (I.Prostykevich), CARNet - Kyiv-Sebastopol operator in cooperation with URAN (V.Shkarupin), UNREN - created just now.

20 universities (Oslo University, Aachen University and 18 leading universities of Ukraine) took part in the workshop. 14 regions of Ukraine were presented (Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhaporizzja, Uzhgorod, Simferopil, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Ternopil, Vinnitsa, Ivanovo-Frankivsk, Lugansk, Sevastopil) at the workshop.

Employees of the National Academy of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science, State Committee of Communication and Information, UNDP (United Nations Development Program), fund "Vidrodzhennya" (7 ministries and institutions of Ukraine, enterprises of communications, including Ukrtelecom) took part in the workshop.

The aim of the seminar was - the analysis of the state of telecommunications systems in the sphere of education and science of Ukraine, working out the proposals concerning their future development, drawing of reserves and experience of West partners in the interests of integration into European and global information space, coordination of activities of ministries, institutions and organizations of Ukraine in this sphere, the analysis of functioning of separate telecommunications networks of Ukraine, perspectives of their integration for needs of economy of Ukraine.

21 reports and 7 speeches were presented to the participants. The speeches were delivered by Secretary General of CEENet J. Gajewski, T. Maray (HungaryNet, Hungary), P. Rastl (ACONET, Austria), D. Davis (GEANT, Great Britain), W. Kaffenberg (Director of NATO scientific Committee, M. Zgurovsky (Rector of NTUU"KPI") and othrs.
